They married for politics, but their union will forge more than alliances.
If someone had told Raina she’d one day rule Polaris, ascend to the Triumvirate, and marry a prince, she would’ve said they were mad.
As child of the late Lord Ursan, Raina is the likely heir to the territory’s seat. Never mind that she’s illegitimate, only half perimortal, and a former servant. Seeing an opportunity to secure the powerful country of Kern as an ally against their enemies, Bressen has brokered a deal. Raina will marry Prince Rowen, third son of the Primus of Kern, to bind their countries together and secure Raina’s position in power.
But things are far from simple. The High Counsil of Polaris doesn’t trust Raina to rule, there’s a dangerous anti-perimortal organization in the city creating unrest, and Raina’s mother is missing, the possible victim of her pregnant stepmother’s revenge. Prince Rowen also seems to be going out of his way to make her regret agreeing to their union. It would be easy to hate him if he’d just stop making her stomach flutter every time he was near.
For his own part, Rowen is frustrated to distraction by the stubborn and impulsive Thasian beauty he’s betrothed to. He was prepared for a quiet life of obscurity as the spare for the spare in the Kernish line of succession, but marriage to Raina of Polaris has thrown his life into chaos. The prince isn’t what he seems, though, and the secrets he’s keeping could mean the difference between victory and defeat in the coming conflict with Sandrian and Magdalene.
